Who Prills Ammonium Nitrate Now?

CF Industries told the market on Wednesday when its Yazoo City complex comes back, and named five products: ammonia, ammonium nitrate solution, nitric acid, UAN and urea liquor.

Prilled ammonium nitrate is not among them.

CEO Chris Bohn made it explicit on Thursday's call. "We will no longer be prilling Ammonium Nitrate down there. We'll be doing Ammonium Nitrate Solution along with Ammonia and DEF down there."

So the plant that has been dark since November comes back in the first half of 2027, and it comes back missing a product line.

That is a removal, decided in a boardroom and published inside a restart date.

"Who supplies solid ammonium nitrate in North America once CF's only plant for it stops prilling?"

What the five-product list leaves out

Yazoo City carries 1,035,000 tons a year of AN nameplate in CF's own capacity table. The company's total is 1,630,000, and the balance is Billingham in the UK at 595,000.

Donaldsonville, Medicine Hat, Port Neal, Verdigris, Waggaman, Woodward and Courtright all show a dash in the AN column.

Yazoo City is 63% of CF's ammonium nitrate capacity and all of the North American half of it.

That 1,035,000 tons covers three product forms, and CF has never split them publicly:

• Amtrate, the high-density agricultural prill, 34% nitrogen, the nitrogen fertilizer of choice across the southeastern US where urea volatilizes off a warm pasture.
• IGAN, industrial-grade ammonium nitrate, the low-density prill that becomes a blasting agent.
• AN solution, sold as a liquid.

The rebuild keeps the third one.

Worth noting alongside it: CF's 10-K places a dinitrogen tetroxide production and storage facility at Yazoo City, and the five-product restart list does not name that either. No company statement on its status after the rebuild was reachable this week, so treat it as an open question rather than a second removal.
