Half of American Lithium Carbonate Will Be One Building in Georgia
R3 Lithium restarted the Covington line this month and projects it will be more than half of US lithium carbonate production in 2027. The line is 2,500 tonnes a year. Run that claim backwards and it tells you the size of the domestic industry, and the instrument the feedstock rides on is a 2022 variance written to a company that filed for bankruptcy in April.
A 154,000 square foot building about 35 miles east of Atlanta is making lithium carbonate again.
The line inside it is rated at 2,500 tonnes a year, and its owner projects that will be more than half of everything the United States produces in 2027.

R3 Lithium announced initiation of operations at 9176 Industrial Drive NE in Covington, Georgia on September 10, and says it is investing to bring the plant to continuous commercial operation. The company bought the site in July out of Ascend Elements, which filed for Chapter 11 in April, and kept the people who had run it.
